Cracked iPad 3 screen.
My Fix
This is my second go around with an iPad 3 repair. My 5- and 3-year-olds are the culprits and we don't always have it in a case. Even when its in the case, it gets dropped on the floor several times.
The big thing with the iFIXIT replacement screens and Apple's original screen is the adhesive. You literally go through 20 steps just to get the front panel off. The Apple adhesive is more like a foam/tape/glue hybrid which needs to be heated.
The IFIXIT replacement screen uses a strong double-sided tape. No heating was necessary and simply stuck the guitar pick in and was able to lift it up.
Unscrew the LCD, flip up the retaining clips for the LCD, then the digitizer and BOOM, cracked digitizer off and new one installed.
My Advice
If its your first time, take it easy and study the device. Components and metal tabs are fragile, but once you get the hang of it, you'll think you're a pro.
