My Problem
I wanted more storage space on my MacBook, 128 GB to 512 GB.
My Fix
Swapping the drive was easy, but reinstalling the operating system was difficult. I got the error that it couldn't detect the hardware and thus couldn't install the operating system. Disk Utility showed the drive showing up properly and formatted correctly. Apple Care told me to bring it into their stores which I didn't want to do. Since I opened up my MacBook, my warranty was probably void and it might cost me money. Instead, I put in my old hard drive to create a Bootable Install USB which also failed for some reason. Finally after 2 hours, I reset the PRAM. This let it detect the hardware and when I tried installing again from recovery boot, it was successful.
My Advice
Reset PRAM after hardware change
