My mid-2009 MacBook Pro was failing
My Fix
My battery and hard drive were operating at less than 20% after years of heavy use. I purchased a 1tb hard drive, a new battery, and one 4gb RAM (small paycheck so I couldn't get two this time). Once I figured out which screw drivers to use, the repair went great. I had a bit of trouble with my RAM but that was totally on me. I wasn't seating them right and my Pro didn't like it. It's been a week and I still can't get over how well my computer works again. No problems whatsoever.
My Advice
Buy a can of air to clean out you computer's innards. I have dogs so hair and dust did manage to get into my unibody. Clean those fans to help with the cooling. It's easy to replace parts as long as you have the right tools.
