My Advice
Two things:
1. As others have suggested, when removing the screen, slide the wedge under the case and screen near the headphone jack. Doing this facilitated it the rest of the screen popping up.
2. No need to fully remove the screen when replacing the battery. Although the directions include the section about removing the screen, you can skip this entire part when just replacing the battery.
