100% successful screen replacement and volume ribbon replacement

Jonathan Katz -

My Problem

Shattered screen, power button was unresponsive.

My Fix

The power button/volume control ribbon cable replacement was tough, I had to take almost everything out of the phone except the headphone jack and lightning connector. The button response is still not great, but it does work if I press firmly after the 'click'.

The replacement screen flickered for about 1 hour after the phone booted up, but the flickering went away and now it is as good a display as the factory original.

My Advice

Use 3 or 4 magnets to sort the miniature screws by size as you remove them. I knew the screws would be tiny, but I hadn't realized there would be 3 or 4 sizes of tiny. I stuck them all to a magnet for safe keeping, but when I was ready to reassemble I couldn't tell a 1.2mm screw from a 1.6mm screw. I had to measure each one with vernier calipers as I reassembled.
