iPhone had a shattered screen
My Fix
Smooth. iPhone 5S screen replacement is significantly easier than the 4S. With it being a clamshell design, you really only need to unscrew nine screws and you're on your way.
My Advice
1) take your time
2) lay a white towel down to keep parts organized and from rolling/sliding around
3) I used a razor blade to pry the glass up enough to get the plastic pry tool around the edge of the glass. While I had a suction cup, I didn't need it.

I missed being able to apply a $5 discount card I got from my last fix by a week. It's an expensive piece of glass.
