My battery was kaput!
My Fix
Bought the iPod for a few bucks on a whim, and the battery was around $15. Now I have a perfectly good iPod worth more than my investment!
My Advice
Just take your time and go slow popping the case open. Pre-read and follow the guide. You can do this!
