Original battery was failing
My Fix
I've done battery replacement several times for iPhone 4, 4S, 5 models. While similar, the 5S was a bigger pain in the ass due to 1) the display was %#*@ near impossible to remove, and only came off after an hour of carefully pulling and prying, and; 2) the touch sensor / home button bracket was difficult to remove and reinstall.
My Advice
Next time I do iPhone disassembly, I might take half an Ativan to alleviate the anxiety of potentially destroying my display as I pull, poke and prod to remove it. An incredibly nervewracking experience.
Also, I heated the back of the case before attempting any steps to remove battery - the adhesive strips slid out like butter.
Next time I will buy the iSclack.
