DON'T use compressed air to clean out your speaker. :(

iPhone 4S Earpiece Speaker Replacement

My Problem

My father-in-law is a metal smith and as such spends a lot of time grinding and welding. He finds that a lot of time the filings from grinding end up in his pockets and attracted to the earpiece speaker on the phone (due to the magnet). He thought he would be clever and blow out the filings with a compressed air gun. BAM! Blew the speaker right out.

My Fix

The repair went well. A description of the orientation to mount the new speaker on the cable would be nice, but I figured it out when going back through the pictures.

My Advice

A time consuming repair. Even though the parts are cheap, the time it takes to effect this repair is quite significant so its probably worth sending it in to a shop to save on costs for parts due to shipping. But... If you have time its pretty fun.
