iPad 3 Wi-Fi Display Bezel Replacement

3 hours

Difficult

My Problem

iPad was dropped and impact was on the bottom right-hand corner. This caused the screen to not only crack but spider web. The concern was that the small shards of glass could cause injury if used in its current condition.

My Fix

Very laborious. Simply removing a cracked screen and replacing can test ones patience enough, but having a screen spider webbed proved to be quite difficult to remove. I applied the take to the screen as many suggested, but the shards were so small that the tape was only moderately helpful. I spent an hour heating and scraping the additional shards off of the outer edge. It was certainly more laborious than expected.

My Advice

The tools supplied with the repair kit proved invaluable. I helped someone repair their iPad a few weeks ago and they purchased some tools off of Amazon, and let me tell you that iFixit's tools looked like Craftsman compared to theirs. Every single tool was leaps and bounds better in quality and function. Also, I learned that adhering the bezel to the screen was more successful than applying it to the chassis.
