won't turn on after usb replaced

My Problem

The USB port was bent and it took forever to get it to work. I bought a new cord and it worked for a while.

My Fix

I followed the directions exactly. Replaced the USB port on my Galaxy 8. Note, no problems. Now it won't charge or turn on at all. Does the battery drain when it is removed to be worked on? Thanks, Kathy
