iPod 3rd Generation Battery Replacement

30 minutes

Moderate

My Problem

my ipod would not charge, turn on, or hold a charge. Whenever it was plugged in, the iPod would display the apple logo then flash off. The battery was bad.

My Fix

I recieved the battery replacement kit one day early, and got right to work. Popping apart the iPod was the hardest part of the whole repair, with not breaking the hard drive ribbon cable as a very close second. Removing the battery and placing the new battery was quite easy, and routing the cable so it would pop back together was easy enough. After replacing the battery, I was able to breathe new life into an otherwise fancy paperweight.

My Advice

be very careful popping apart the case, because the lock switch assembly and headphone jack can be ripped from the internal logic board and wreak havoc to that board. bottom first, then work around to the top. CAREFULLY.
