My Problem

Original, 6 year old battery not holding charge, occasionally getting very hot. Apple no longer stock parts for this model.

My Fix

The repair is very easy. Just undo the screws on the base of the laptop. Remove 3 screws holding the battery in place. Lift out the battery. Carefully unplug the cable. Do the reverse for the new battery. It can be quite fiddly plugging the cable into the logic board, so take your time.

My Advice

The only real issue here, is that Apple has used screws with a 3 pointed star shape, making it difficult to remove with a normal screw driver. A flat blade one, that is slightly bent should work. Luckily, I had the right screw driver. It might be a good idea if iFixit provides the correct screw driver with the replacement battery, if it doesn't increase the cost too much.
