My daughter's aging but still good MacBook Pro

My Problem

This was a guess regarding a problem. Battery tests indicated that the battery was ok, however, there were times that the computer would shut down randomly unless the MagSafe was plugged in. Swapping the MagSafe board was a stab at fixing this.

My Fix

I didn't realized that replacing this board is a very involved process. It requires the removal of the logic board. Fortunately, the instructions provided on iFixit website took me step by step through it and provided the necessary caution flags for particularly sensitive parts.

My Advice

A magnifying glass is helpful.

Each step requiring removal of screws is well described, but I recommend keeping the loose screws in separate groups by step number. Much easier for re-assembly.

Pay attention to what comes out where. Instructions are good, but some focus helps too.

Things go back in place smoothly. If you have to push or force something then there's either something underneath or you are pushing into the wrong spot.

The wire for the MagSafe board and the microphone wire are in the same area. I had a hard time figuring out the right way for them to seat together and leave space for the MagSafe board and screws to fit smoothly. I recommend taking careful note of this area before you remove the original.
