My Problem

My iPhone 5 is about 3.5 years old. When the charge got below 50%, the phone would shut down. It did not necessarily happen every time at 49%. Sometimes it waited until a lesser charge. But once it got down under 50%, I could not rely on the phone. I took it to the Apple Store, they checked out the battery and said I needed a new battery, for which they would charge $80. They recommended putting that money into a new phone instead. So I began looking for other options and found ifixit.

My Fix

The repair went exactly as shown and described in the video.

My Advice

The most difficult part was getting the phone opened initially. The phone had not been taken apart in 3.5 years, so it was a little tough pulling it apart. However, the prying tool worked very well, and once I had a slight separation between the back and the front, the rest of the repair followed easily.
