Kids drop things, and dads have to fix them!

My Problem

My son dropped his iPod right on the screen and alas the digitizer broke. But since the digitizer is bonded to the LCD the whole screen unit needed to be repalced (ie: digitizer and LCD) ifixit had the BEST price on this piece AND the home button was included!

My Fix

Hardest parts was heating and loosening the adhesive and then reconnecting the tiny ribbon cables to the mainboard.

I had to take the iPod apart again as you have to make sure the iPod frame is not bent out of shape from the new screen (which after many drops by a kid it was) as the new screen if you can get it popped back in can cause the LCD to display some funny lines down it. Once I straightened out the iPod the screen went in smoothly and the iPod is up and working fine again.....until next drop and when that happens I will buy again from ifixit!

My Advice

If the actual iPod frame is bent out of shape from the shape of the new screen and you can get it popped in, LCD can display some funny lines down it.
