Macbook Pro Fan noise

doug ross -

My Problem

My Macbook had been making a clicking noise for days. Since it does not have any moving parts other than fans, I knew what the problem was. A local shop estimated $200 to replace both fans.

My Fix

I decided to just order the tool from ifixit to take a look. I got the bottom cover off the Macbook easily, taking care to sort the screws as two of them are shortr. I found a small screw from the fan housing had lodged in the blades of the left fan. I took it out and reinstalled it where it should be. Problem solved for $12. Took about 10 minutes.

My Advice

Its a good idea to have the 5 pointed star driver on hand.
