Change the battery on my MacBook Pro 2009 2.53Ghz

My Problem

I was finding that I was only getting 2 1/2 hours away from power unlike the 6 or 7 it used to get when new. I took it to Apple and they told me that the battery in that model had just recently become "obsolete" but offered that I Fix It would be able to supply me with an after market battery.

My Fix

Changing the battery was very easy once you have the correct tools, don't forget to buy a P6 pentalobe (a precision 5 sided screw driver, using anything else could strip the heads on the tiny screws) If you are like me and need glasses to see, invest in a head band magnifier so you can use two hands. it was a snap to remove the battery, be careful with the serial connection, it is small and a little hard to get one's fingernails between the connection to release it but it went back together easily.

My Advice

As above, buy the screw driver from your local store, or check on internet. Lee Valley has a great set of precision tools for an excellent price which includes a P6 pentalobe. If your in western Canada, Princess Auto also has a great set for $15, you'll find lots of uses for all those drivers and then some.

Being Canadian it hurt my wallet to have to pay all that extra shipping and you don't get an option for slower service, everything is rushed. It cost me almost $50 extra just to ship to me. It would be better if I Fix It offered a choice of postal service rather than using Fed Ex. Fast delivery is nice but with the economy in Canada right now, $50 for shipping really hurt. I know, I placed the order, but I had no choice in shipping options I took the lesser of the three.
