My Problem
For the last few months, my macbook pro began to work slow, I referred it to its age and the load i put on it. suddenly, few days ago while i work on it had stuck only this time when i restart I got the Question-mark-folder blinking... First i thought maybe i'll give it rest for a while (although it didn't seems like it's overheated or something -more of a wishful thinking). a few minutes and pageviews later i tried apple guides of restoring but no matter what i did no hdd was found.
My Fix
First I decided to tale the mac to a lab of apple reseller at my area to confirm the problem, he suggested it was the hdd. since the diagnostic tool says as well it cannot detect one. At that point I went back home and ordered new hdd with external-usb kit for internal hdd. -The reason I added the kit is to be able to maybe save some of the data by plugin the old hdd on another computer -or, in case the hdd is not the problem to gain another space. I got the hdd within 2 days and installed it following the relevant guide, but it didn't work.. at that stage i put the old hdd in the external usb kit i bought and plugged it in... The macbook worked fine (with the old hdd)... I looked up and found evidence to support the possibility of hdd-cable not working and i discovered that it is may be the problem of my slow experience for the last few months. I Ordered the cable, Installed it and everything works just fine now.
My Advice
I wrote this from my macbook. That was the first time i dared/needed to open my macbook to exchange parts -as long as you follow a relevant guide it is fairly easy.. When deciding to buy a part to implement a solution keep in mind next step and fallbacks, for me -buying the external usb kit was a HUGE time saver, as only few minutes after understanding that the hdd is not the problem I got a new promising direction. and of course, now i also have a new *usable* space on the new hdd :)
