My Problem
I have 13" macbook unibody that was known for having a faulty HDD cable. When I started it up, it was showing a blinking folder with a question mark sign on. After researching my model number and visiting various macbook trouble shooting forum's , I found out that my HDD cable had failed and at worst, my HDD crashed.
My Fix
With the right tools, repair videos from ifixit.com and a little patience, the repair went extremely quick. I just had to wait two days for my part to arrive (USPS to Arizona).
My Advice
When I found out what the problem was, I called various "Mac specialist" to see how much they charged to fix my problem. I was quoted from $135 to $300 just to replace a $35 cable. If you have the patience to do the research to find out what's the problem, a little technical background, and are decent with hand tools, you can easily fix common problems with your macbook. There's a lot of resources online like ifixit.com to help you with troubleshooting, repairing and places to get your parts.
