My Problem

The iMac was a mid-2010 i5 3.0GHz, not too shabby but was getting a bit long in the tooth for opening up Adobe programs and took forever when switching logged in users.

My Fix

This was the second iMac I've done this on now, and the swap was simple and easy. I would say the 12.7mm SATA Optical Bay does not line up with the screw holes for the black optical drive holder very well. Both now that I've done did not match, and I've had to bust off a few of the plastic tabs to get the enclosure to fit in nicely. Not a huge deal but mildly annoying.

My Advice

Leave the screen ribbon on the board and disconnect the screen side, the little tiny connector on the board with the metal clasp is a pain in the ass, especially if you have normal non 10-year old sized hands.
