Difficult

My Problem

My MacBook Pro is pretty old, and I got it second-hand, so it's been through a lot. The left fan started to buzz every once in a while, not really a big deal. But, one day it just started screaming super loud and wouldn't stop.

My Fix

The repair went really well. While I had the case apart I also took the time to pull out the motherboard and clean up a bit. There was quite a bit of dust and debris in the cooling fins. Now my MacBook runs super quiet and several degrees cooler. I did make one small mistake when putting it back together. I didn't quite get the CPU thermocouple plug seated all the way, so when I booted back up my fans were at 6000rpm. I pulled the keyboard off to have a look and pushed the plug all the way down. It's been golden ever since.

My Advice

Don't be intimidated. These are very easy to work on. Just be patient, take your time and double check that you've got everything back in place seated all the way.
