Reviving a 1st gen MacBook Air
My Problem
I have a 1st generation MacBook Air in my shop that is in great shape, but the battery would no longer charge. It was easy to justify the replacement. This is a great machine to have available for presentations and travelers who need a loaner.
My Fix
The repair went flawlessly. I had already viewed the step-by-step here on ifixit and knew what to do. Also, despite already having the tools necessary, I was quite surprised and pleased that ifixit included a screwdriver that would have done the job.
My Advice
Give yourself plenty of bench space when doing this replacement. The screws you will remove when doing this repair come in differing sizes. When removing the case screws, place them on your bench in a way that you don't get mixed up as to which one goes where when reassembling. You could even take a piece of cardboard and punch the screws into it in a representational sort of way.
