All fixed. Recycling iPhone into music player, alarm clock, etc., etc. device.
My Fix
All went well.
My Advice
I forced opened the "asterisk" screws with a phillips screwdriver. Next time I'd get the asterisk 5 point screwdriver. I thought I had one, but it was a torx screwdriver from laptop repair.
