My Problem

I purchased my iPhone 5 almost 2 years ago and in recent months the original battery seemed to be at the end of its life. Draining quickly each day, and yes, I'm one of those that keeps the battery percentage visible, and would notice that it would jump numbers quickly. I decided it was time to consider replacing my battery--either on my own or paying an Apple store to do it at full cost since my warranty expired. I chose iFixit.

My Fix

I had no problems with changing out the battery--the tools worked perfectly. My biggest concern, and what took me the longest, was just getting the screen apart using the suction cup in the iFixit kit. Took more force than I anticipated and I was concerned about damage. However, I was able to pry it loose with no problem. While the video showed fully removing the screen from the back--I was very careful and kept my screen connected, just keeping the screen at no more than a 90 degree angle as to not put stress on the connectors. You can remove and replace the battery without taking the entire screen off--following the same instructions in the video.

My Advice

#1--just go slow. Don't rush or get frustrated or you'll end up with an expensive paperweight. Again, you can swap your battery without fully removing the screen, just be careful and be sure you don't put stress on the cables/connectors attaching the front and back at the top of the phone. Also, those screws are (obviously) TINY--make sure you are careful handling and screwing/unscrewing them as to not strip them.
