My Problem
When I saw that Apple wanted $975 to replace my hard drive I freaked out and then remembered that I had a friend who works at Apple support. I texted him, he asked for the computer model. I replied and he sent me a link to ifixit.
My Fix
I ordered the kit, upgrading the size of the drive in the process.
The kit arrived two days later.
My Advice
Opening the computer and installing the drive was a breeze. (Remember that the screws are all a tiny bit different and need to go back into the same hole they came out of.)
The biggest glitch was that there were no instructions for starting a computer that had a "brain" with no knowledge in it.
Luckily my friend was able to help via text and we got it going.
