My Problem

8 month old IPhone 6 plus, battery won't hold a charge anymore. From 100% it typically dies within 2 hrs on standby and in about 30min of actual use. Took it to the Apple Store, they refuse to replace the battery under warranty dispite it only being 8months old. They tell me battery is fine and passes all their tests. According to them is has approx 400 cycles on it. Called around to all the local repair shops, no one will replace an iPhone 6/6plus battery, no one even stocks one yet. A few places are willing to replace if I provide the battery. WTF, if I'm going to have to go to the trouble of ordering one on my own ill just replace it myself.

My Fix

Everything went smooth until the battery adhesive straps. First one peeled out no prob. I got cocky and the other two promptly tore. Spent the next 45m swearing and cursing Steve Jobs while digging away at the battery with the supplied plastic cards. Eventually the battery came free, swapped the new one in and sucess, I have a functional iPhone again. Despite Apple's claims otherwise, the OEM battery was pooched, the replacement fixed all my problems and battery life is stellar now. I can use the phone all day no problem.

My Advice

Take your time pulling those adhesive tabs.
