My Problem

My wife's macbook would not boot. The hard drive was not found. I put the drive in an external enclosure and attached it to my PC to test the drive which turned out was fine. Therefore I knew it had to be something in the macbook that was the problem. I read online that many people had this drive cable issue so I ordered a new one to see if that would fix it. The original cable looked fine but what the heck.

My Fix

The repair is a no brainer. Easy-peasy. Take off the back, remove the hard drive, replace the cable, reinstall the hard drive and replace the back. Oh, and it turns out the cable was the problem :)

My Advice

Take care to organize the little tiny screws that you remove to make sure they are not lost and you know exactly which ones go where. Don't over-tighten. Snug is good enough. Also, get the complete replacement cable with all the bits. Re-using any part is just asking for trouble.
