My Problem
After five + years of wii-ing, the DVD drive calls it quits. I tried all of the simple suggestions I found online to get it running again, but my issue was more serious than just a dirty lens. I was about ready to spring for a new non-Wii gaming system, but my daughter was so sad to lose her Wii, that I checked into self repair kits to see if there was a cost effective option. I found just that with the ifixit Wii replacement drive kit.
My Fix
The new DVD replacement arrived on time and in good shape. I ordered the kit as well as I did not own the tri bladed screwdriver needed for disassembly. I followed the easy to follow directions on the website and 20 minutes later the device was up and running.
My Advice
The only issue I ran into was the screws that go through the rubber grommets and fasten the new drive to the Wii box seemed to strip out very easily. I was able to get them tightened but I don't think I will be able to use them again should I ever need to replace this new drive.
