My Problem
The original battery on my mid-2012 MacBook was good while it lasted, but three years and 800 charging cycles later it was down under 75% capacity and giving me "service battery" warnings. So, I decided to service it myself.
My Fix
I had the tools already, and I'd replaced the hard drive and RAM before, so I was comfortable working inside the Unibody MacBook. I slipped one battery out, popped the other in, and was done in under five minutes. Charging took longer, of course, but that's because the new battery could hold more charge :)
My Advice
Hardware stores sell ratcheting drivers with tons of tiny little bits, including tri-wing and torx. Spend the ten dollars to get a set, and you'll be able to complete any repair or upgrade you want.
