My Problem

I had a fairly outdated laptop and decided that replacing the battery and the hard drive would be cheaper than buying an expensive new computer that I wasn't likely to use to its full capacity anyway.

My Fix

Both repairs were easy enough to do using the instructions on here. There was a bit extra I had to do in order to format the new hard drive and transfer my old information onto it but with a bit of digging around on the Internet, I was able to do that easily enough.

The battery definitely lasts longer but I've noticed that once I get to around 8% capacity, my laptop shuts off entirely. No warning. Nothing. It just shuts off. Can't say I'm a fan of that but it still lasts a lot longer than my old one did so I guess I can't complain too much.

My Advice

Do some research on how to install OSX on your new hard drive before you install it. It'll make it easier once you do and it isn't obvious enough to know on your own if you're an amateur.
