My Problem

I took apart my iPhone to clean dust off the camera lens. Despite having successfully replaced the battery a couple months ago, I managed to damage to display & cable when I opened the phone. But iFixit's videos convinced me the repair would be straightforward and not too expensive.

My Fix

I ordered the replacement part on iFixit, and it arrived in record time. My 11-year-old son got home from school before I got home from work and opened the package. Motivated by the idea of one day inheriting the iPhone, he opened up the iPhone (using iFixit's videos) and had the screen and home button assembly replaced in less than 15 minutes. How easy was that? The repaired phone works perfectly and the display looks great! (We did clean the rear-facing camera and got a new front-facing one with the replacement part.)

My Advice

When opening the iPhone, make sure the metal-edged housing right surrounding the front display glass comes with the glass. My glass display separated from the housing (old glue, maybe?) and I ruined the display. Lesson learned.
