I pod 4th generation battery replacement

My Problem

My I pod was giving me the sad Mac face and I thought I would need to replace the entire unit.Although it is an older unit, I just wanted to use it as a playback device, so I thought why not try to revive it? For less that $25 it seemed worth while.

My Fix

After looking at the on line tutorials and advice, I gave it a shot. The thing that I noticed in my kit was that both prying tools were the same size, small, not a small and a large as stated in the description. I had difficulty getting the small tool around the first corner of the device. Fortunately I was sitting at a workbench of one of my co-workers who had some Ifixit tools in his drawer. He had a large pry tool. Once I used it, the case came right apart and the repair was on! Another tool that he had was a spudger. That came in handy for removing the battery. I put the new battery in and reassembled the case and the I pod came to life! Unfortunately the click wheel did not work. With my new found ability to open the case, I was back in in a few seconds, retraced the steps, made sure all of the connections were tight, put it back together and this time success!I now have a fully functioning old I pod.

My Advice

The advice was spot on. Turning the corner was the hardest part. Once I had the proper tool it was easy. The connectors are very small and delicate, so be patient!
