My Problem

My iPhone 5 in 1.75 years old and out of warranty. The display digitizer started having intermittent problems a couple weeks ago, then got to the point it didn't ever recover and respond to any touches. It was cheaper to buy a complete front panel display/digitizer with camera and button, as well as a new battery that to pay for a repair from Apple.

My Fix

The battery replacement went fine, and the display works fine, however, the digitizer still doesn't respond to any touches, so it was a failed repair. I remotely wiped the iPhone and it didn't fix the problem either.

My Advice

It appears the failure must be on the logic board, which is non-repairable/replaceable. It would have been nice if Apple provided diagnostics that were accessible iTunes (I sync via cable to Mac). It would help their technicians (and iFixit customers), as well as provide defect data to the engineering teams to improve reliability in future devices.
