My Problem
Wanted to repair a PS3. Got one off Ebay with the YLOD. Used the repair kit and it worked like a charm! Unfortunately the fan controller chip died, which is what probably caused the YLOD in the first place.
My Fix
The repair went great! I ran into a little trouble because my PS3 MOBO was different and the fan was a lot harder to remove. But once I figured that out the rest was easy and worked like a charm. I will now install a 100k ohm potentiometer to the fan to be able to control it by hand which should help with the overheating issue.
My Advice
Be careful on which mobo you have. Sometimes it take a little prying to get the mobo detached from the heat sinks. Don't be scared to put a little force into as mobo's are pretty durable. But at the same time don't use a lot of strength because it can break. Just be cautious!
