My Problem
An early 2011 mac would not boot any longer. I was able to boot with an external drive. Then replaced the hard drive, but it would not recognize the new hard drive either. I figured it was the SATA cord, and ordered a new one.
My Fix
Replacing the SATA cord took 15 minutes total! Very easy, then I put the original hard drive back in and my machine is back to normal.
My Advice
Use the guides, but this is a very easy fix!
