My Problem

Three year old iPhone battery not keeping charge. Have to constantly charge it. Once fully charged, it loses power quickly. Have to keep it hooked up to a charger most of the day.

My Fix

Not complicated, but extremely difficult and scary. Watched the tutorial video twice, and read the online guide twice. Difficult because having never done it before, I didn't know what to expect, even going over the directions a few times. You really don't know how it's going to go until you actually do it. The hardest part was removing the screen. That took the most time. After struggling with it quite a while, I was still unable to get the plastic opener tool under the edge to gently pry it off. Eventually, the entire screen just quickly and completely popped up in one fast movement. I'm lucky it didn't pull right off from the phone and break the connectors. Once open, it was pretty easy removing all the screws and actually changing the battery. A tiny little connector next to the battery, that wasn't described in the guide, came up unexpectedly. I don't know what it does, but I just re-connected it. I put the screen back on and closed up the phone, but now the screen isn't *exactly* as flush with the phone edge as it was previously. Not a big deal though.

My Advice

I didn't have a magnetic mat used in the video, so I just did the whole thing on a piece of fabric. That helped keep the microscopic screws from rolling around and getting lost. Still, one of them flew off as I was unscrewing it, but I found it.
