My Problem
My 80gb got to where it would only power on when plugged into a wall outlet. The battery was so dead not even a USB could power it on (I would just get the 'please wait' screen when using USB).
My Fix
It took about 20 minutes to get the iPod open, but it was a breeze from there, and it just snapped backed together. I bent the side of the iPod when breaking it open, but it's barely noticeable. The new battery works like a charm. I put the iPod on shuffle for about 4 hours this weekend and the battery's only about 25% down.
My Advice
Like many others, I ended up having to use something other than the included tools to open the iPod. The plastic tools included in the kit just snapped. I used an exacto knife and a small flat head screwdriver to open the case.
