Pay $360 for a battery replacement? Yeah, right!

My Problem

Five year old MacBook Pro, battery only lasting 1 hour before giving up the ghost. Love the machine, nothing else wrong with it. Simple: replace the battery! But Apple says it's not a user-serviceable part. Yeah, right!

My Fix

Only problem was it turned out I didn't have the right screwdriver! Serves me right for being too lazy to shut down the machine and check, before ordering the battery. However, my local electronics store let me borrow a Y1 tri-wing, so I did the "surgery" in the middle of the store!! Absolutely no problems and I'm delighted to have a battery now that lasts nearly 3 hours. Thanks iFixit for the guides AND the battery -- I couldn't find them for sale in my country.

My Advice

Do it, do it, do it. This is easy-peasy.
