Difficult

My Problem

My old fatty PS3 had been YLOD for a while and I decided to go for it and try to fix it myself (boredom). I tried the hair dryer method, as I'm sure most people do, but it only lasted about an hour

My Fix

My PS3 was NOTHING like the guide, other than how to get the casings off, so I had to completely wing it, but once I stopped trying to compare to the guide and just looked at what needed to be taken out to get at the motherboard it was suuuuper easy. I took a million pictures as I disassembled it so reassembly was easy. It's a week later and my friends that I gave it to have played it at least a few hours every day and it's working like a champ. I did use the heat gun for three times longer than the guide said because I didn't want to take the chance of the solder not getting hot enough, you just have to be sure to keep the gun moving.

My Advice

The only advice I would have is if yours doesn't match the guide don't try to force your way down the process. By trying get mine to disassemble in the same way I tweaked the casing and had to fix that to get the USB's 100% alligned again. When I finally just looked at the thing logically I realised my model doesn't require you to lift everything out of the case and was actually easier/faster to get to the board than the guide's model was. Also my board's layout was quite different and had half the amount of thermal pads needed (not a bad thing.) Good luck everybody!
