My Problem

Noisy fan on 15" MBP 1,1 -- Apple would not touch it because it is 'too old'. Baloney! iFixit to the rescue! All went very well -- new fan is quiet!

(Had already replaced other fan -- I do lots of video compression, and this thing gets HOT!)

My Fix

Very well. Had to improvise with some electrical tape and foam seal strip to seal the fan to the heat exchanger/heat sink because the old adhesive strip got mangled in taking out the old fan. However, this was not difficult to do, and perhaps ought to be included in the instructions.

My Advice

See above. Also, I realize the parts sales pay for the website and the guides, but I think your margin on these parts is a little piggish. I was tempted to find the part elsewhere, and I think other people are also. $50 for a $3 part is too much!
