My Problem

2010 Apple MacBook Pro laptop running slow. HD out of space. Decided to upgrade HD and RAM instead of purchasing new laptop.

My Fix

Smooth repair. No issues. 20 minute job. Instructions were clear and easy. Repair kit had proper tools. Laptop now runs faster and original 320HD now has 1TB capacity. Extra RAM and HD Cache improve performance.

My Advice

Read the instructions! Make sure you don't strip the screws as the metal is soft. Keep them separated and organized once you have them removed from the laptop chassis. The screws are tiny and easy to loose. I put mine in small paper cups that had been pre-labled. Be patient and don't use too much force with the screws when removing or replacing or they will strip. Tools included with the upgrade kit fit the screws perfectly. Give yourself a couple hours to clone the original Hard Drive using Super Duper. That will be the longest process. While the Laptop case is open, blow out any dust with compressed air. RAM just snaps into the slots. Nothing to worry about. If you have the extra bucks, purchase the iFixit Deluxe Toolkit. Good investment for future work. This is an easy upgrade that anyone can do. I reformatted the old hard drive and can re-use it and the external chassis as an emergency repair drive. I installed Yosemite on it and some disk utilities. Can boot from it in an emergency.
