Water damage? Shattered display? No problem here!

firebolt -

My Problem

I acquired two broken iPhone 5 devices, one that fell into a lake and one that was dropped onto kitchen tile. The "wet" one was completely inoperable and the dropped one worked, but the display was nothing but vertical lines. I wondered if the wet display would work in the other phone, so I ordered some tools and used the iFixIt repair guide to find out.

My Fix

It totally worked! I removed the display from the lakebed phone and installed it in the other phone. At first I went the lazy route and kept the speakers, mics, camera attached to the "wet" display, but found that they were too damaged to work, but the display was fine, amazingly enough. I went back and put the dry pieces in place and now have a totally working iPhone 5. I reassembled the water damaged one with the now cracked display and plan to use it as a prank -- act like I'm talking on it and drop it on purpose to trick someone into thinking I just destroyed my phone. :)

My Advice

My advice is to fix what can be fixed!
