My Problem
My dock connector was on its way out. Any disturbance to the charging cable (once I'd be done playing around with it for 5 min to get it to keep charging) would prevent the phone from charging. I bought a dock connector on Amazon, which turned out to be faulty. Unfortunately the only way I found out was after spending 2 hours taking the phone apart and putting it back together. I repeated the process to put my old dock connector back in place. I then ordered one from here.
My Fix
The repair was seamless the second time around. I actually didn't remove the phone's logic board, saving myself considerable time.
My Advice
You don't need to remove the logic board. Once you separate the screen from the back of the phone, disconnect the battery; remove the shield; disconnect the dock connector cable; remove the 7 screws (keep track of where they came from); replace the dock connector with the new one, following the steps in IFIXIT's article.
