My Problem
I'd accidentally dropped my (imported from the UK to the US) Sony Xperia Z3 Compact phone. It is a wonderfully rugged phone, but a 1.5m drop on to pavement is a bit tough. Not covered by warranty, obviously.
Sony said they'd repair it for £100, in the UK. I thought I could do better (shipping, not having a phone for a month) when I saw the OEM replacement part on eBay for USD$20.
My Fix
Well, I didn't have any tear downs or guides to reference, but I guessed it might be similar to earlier Z series phones, which meant adhesive. Which meant the iOpener, a suction cup, picks, and ... Wait, that was it. Simple to remove.
My Advice
Don't drop your expensive imported phone onto pavement.
Repair isn't hard, just make sure you use heat again on new back case to ensure a tight seal, and put weight on it for a bit while it cools.
