Difficult

My Problem

My track pad started acting up jumping around all over the place and I tried all the possible solutions online, checking the battery, reinstalling my OS and others to no avail. Then one day I noticed a tiny crack by the corner of the track pad and as it grew longer after a few months the track pad got worst until it stopped working completely. I was hesitant to try to replace it myself but finally decided to give it a shot. I'm extremely pleased with this new track pad and how the repair went.

My Fix

I bought a toolkit for macs and iPhone and it had every tool I needed for the repair and it was worth it. There are so many places where you can break something important that you do need the special tools. I didn't find the guide for my mid 2010 mac-book pro but the next year's guide was 99% accurate, the display cable was slightly different but I figured it out. I would say it took me about 30 minutes to replace the track pad and assemble everything back and everything works perfect now. I guess the broken track pad was affecting my mac because it was very slow and buggy before and after the repair it got so much faster and works smoothly. I compared the track pads old/new side by side and they were identical in every way.

My Advice

Get the proper tools, take your time, use plenty of light, use a tray to layout the screws and parts and follow the instructions exactly. The ribbon cable plugs have this hinged lever that it must be the width of a cat's hair, you can feel it but is really hard to see so I would get a magnifying glass to make sure you don't pull it the wrong way, then after replacing the ribbon cable don't forget to lock the lever down again and like the instructions say use your nail and don't force it.
