My Problem

My Mac Mini was running out of room on it's 500Gb drive and I was getting hardware errors that were precluding me from upgrading to Yosemite, the latest version of Mac OS.

My Fix

I started with a competing repair site... went through the 'wizard' to determine what to buy. The drive showed up and it looked suspiciously large for the Mini. So I went back to that site and had an online chat with someone to confirm whether the drive was the right one. They asked for the Mac model and said 'YES' you've got the right one. So I started to open it up. I found online instructions on iFixit to help me with the steps. (the competing site had no help available). I felt like I was doing brain surgery... I get to the drive and the new drive clearly was not going to fit. So I go back online with them, the admitted it was the wrong drive. So I got a return authorization and email with instructions to send back. But they did not offer to pay shipping back to them! It cost me $11 to ship it back! Grrrr... At that point I decided not to give them my business and instead went to iFixit, easily found the right drive, ordered it and installed it, no problems. My Mini is spinning away with it's new 1TB drive!

My Advice

Don't bother with competing repair sites... just go to iFixit.com!
