My Problem

Brand new iPhone 5S fell off my 17-year-old daughter's dresser and hit a power strip. The screen was shattered badly.

My Fix

The shattered screen was too lumpy to get a grip on it with my IFIXIT suction cup. Even with tape applied, I could not get suction. So I could not complete the simple step of opening the phone.

My Advice

I epoxied two wooden trim strips directly to the face of the phone. I put them in position so they were hanging over the bottom edge of the phone. After 30 minutes of setting, I was able to pry up on the wood to remove the screen assembly. Finally I could continue with the repair, which went well. This is my 3rd iPhone screen replacement procedure. I'm not sure I would recommend this one for someone without experience with tiny flexes and connectors.
