My Problem

My wife dropped her iPad down the stairs, completely destroying the front panel glass. I decided to at least try fixing it myself first because I wanted to learn how.

My Fix

Ordered the front panel assembly from iFixit, followed the step-by-step guide, and it was a lot easier than I expected it would be. Took about 2.5 hours, but if your screen isn't as badly broken as this one was it would take a lot less time. Wear safety glasses and be careful with the glass. I ended up using a razor blade to get most of the glass out because the pieces were so small, but this meant I had to be extra careful not to damage anything.

My Advice

When you are done, don't panic if the iPad won't turn on. To get it to recognize the new digitizer and the reinstalled LCD you have to reset it by holding the home button and power button for 10 seconds. If your screen is completely shattered like this one was, there will be tiny pieces of glass everywhere when you are done, so do this somewhere easy to clean up.
