My Problem
Slow slow slow opening and closing any application. Each OS upgrade degraded performance to the point of pain.
My Fix
Easy. Really easy. Bought the screwdriver set from iFixit and followed the instructions online - couldn't be easier. There is no reason to put this off. While I was in there, I also added RAM. Now the battery is dying, but now I see how easy that is to swap too.
My Advice
When trying to install Mavericks from my old hard drive to the SSD, I received a non-specific error message when the OS said it needed to check if the OS could be installed on the new drive. It turns out that I had to go into Terminal and reset the time manually (WHAT?). You have to put the time in a weird format too. Look up on YouTube, I found a step-by-step to do this. I imagine that Apple throws in a wrench like this to stop you from doing things yourself.
